About AOET
AOET (Aids Orphans Educational Trust) is an independent, indigenous non-governmental organisation with the prime mandate of providing an education — formal and/or vocational — to desperately poor, neglected and forgotten orphans whose parents have died of AIDS. AOET assists children with AIDS and widows who have not only lost their spouses to AIDS, but are mostly HIV+ themselves. They currently work in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Zambia and Botswana. For more information visit the AOET website.
AOET and Teams4U
A few years ago Dave Cooke met the founder of AOET, Sam Tushabe and discussed ways in which Teams4U might be able to support the organisation. Where they really felt they needed support was in organisational development, to help build the capacity of the organisation to help it reach out to more people who need their help.
Areas of Work
AOET’s activities fall into four main categories: child welfare, economic empowerment, healthcare and administration. Teams4U has been working with AOET in Uganda, providing training workshops with the senior managers of these categories, equipping them with skills in areas such as Management and Leadership....more
The Future
Uganda is at the heart of the sub-saharan HIV/AIDS pandemic. AOET is working hard to support those affected, however the need is overwhelming and their capacity is limited. The organisation has identified other areas in which they would value additional training and support, particularly in business development. We would therefore like to bring more teams with specialised skills to provide further capacity building training to the organisation.
