Simferopol is the capital of Crimea, located on a peninsular in Southern Ukraine.
The staff at the children's hospital work really hard to care for children and mothers, most of whom are living with AIDS, however lack of funding and capacity is a real challenge. Teams4U have been supporting the management at the hospital to help improve the condition of the hospital facilities as well as to build the capacity of the doctors.
Refurbishments
Lack of resources has meant the hospital has been very neglected. Sterile areas are non-existent and basic cleanliness difficult to achieve due to appalling conditions.Through teams we are helping to refurbish hospital wards.
Refurbishment included replacing windows and floor finishes, refurbishing walls and ceilings, w/c and bath areas, and decorating. Even simple painting and decorating brightens up the wards for desperately sick children.
Medical Capacity Building
Through specialised teams we have been working with the medical staff to provide training in areas that they would like to develop. Working with the doctors and nurses, teams have developed training courses to meet their needs by covering areas that they have identified.
Training has included practice resuscitation skills as well as the treatment of HIV AIDS in children. Through training we can help develop the capacity of the doctors and nurses to provide better quality treatment to the children.
