Practical teams fulfil an important role in helping to improve the environment in which some of these children live. Work can involve construction or refurbishing different places such as orphanages, hospitals, prisons and schools.
An entire orphanage of 150 children had to share just one dirty dark shower. A recent work team transformed this shower into one that the children will now be thrilled to use.
In another example a washing machine was broken and all washing had to be done by hand in a bathtub. The ladies of the orphanage were thrilled when the laundry facilities were upgraded by another work team.
In Uganda we have been helping to build a brand new school for the children at the Jackson Standard school. The school has a number of abandoned children sleeping there with nowhere else to go, so the first priority has been to build a brand new dormitory for them with beds and electricity.
There are so many places where this type of practical help can make such a difference to the lives of the children and staff alike.
